about

Recorded in 2007, 'From Ruins' was the first ever album recorded by the teenage Tom.

Originally released under the pseudonym ‘Toma’ (a combination of Tom's first and last name), the album was recorded using a few minimal elements; a laptop, a guitar, a cheap microphone and keyboard.

Given its humble origins 'From Ruins' has a surprisingly well defined sense of aesthetic. The album is not lacking for ambition and despite featuring some rather curious production choices at times, it sets the clear intention of being music that wants to be experienced as not just listened to.

It also introduces vocals as a key part of the soundscape, something that would go onto be a defining element to toms later records.

From Ruins was initially ‘released’ as a direct download on the internet forum ‘Afterthepostrock.org’. The audio here is the original master from 2007
