Peninsula 06:27
Its cold along the western shore, but i don’t mind i know that i should ask for more from my dull life So do you feel like you’re searching or did you find what you want And have you got to keep moving or are you happy to stop And do you always need answers or is a question enough? Perhaps i’m asking too much? slow decent into the grey but no one is there i wish that you were waiting for me but you’re long gone from here i know its too late to ask But do you feel like you’re searching or did you find what you want And have you got to keep moving or are you happy to stop And do you always need answers or is a question enough? Perhaps i’m asking too much? You know hope you find what you’re looking for but please don’t come looking for me
2.
Dear Future 06:23
Dear future, you’re a liar, You sold me the world, with pictures from magazines but as i follow you blindly, i’ve realised I'm never quite where you promised me Dear Future, I will always, be in your debt, for this dream i can’t afford so next year please just take me somewhere more real I am not dreaming anymore

Cold Noise 04:41
Are you finding it hard? because i know i am Its support to be easy with all that we have but somehow I am lost, and its worse every day despite all of the chances, i still can’t escape i remember the time, from before i was here through a rose tinted lens ,that i know isn’t real But i’m still looking back to how things used to be from before i was lost, at least you’re loosing with me in this cold noise the beautiful cold noise in the cold noise this beautiful cold noise Are you finding it hard, as the days pass you by Such a terrible waste, are you sure you don’t mind There’s a million stores, but none of them ours did you learn to ignore it? because i still hear the sound of the cold noise this beautiful cold noise in the cold noise this beautiful cold noise Are you finding it hard, as the world falls apart such a wonderful place, is it breaking your heart? but i have to be honest, it is all i can do just to keep things together, and stay lost here with you in the cold noise this beautiful cold noise lost in this cold noise this beautiful cold noise in the cold noise this beautiful cold noise lost in this cold noise this beautiful cold noise

The Breaking 05:04
There’s a breaking of the world Are you ready? to be eaten by the wolves, and their cameras and the cameras Theres a breaking of the world so this is goodbye But out of the last ruins will grow New life i will see the world burn on the news In high definition but please don’t come through my window its too real Theres a breaking of the world so this is goodbye But out of the last ruins will grow New life
5.
In Darkness 04:17
In the lights, all that i see, are things i said, come back to me an echo but still i’m waiting, for the black, i gave my time, now i want it back please let go of me i need it all of the time, just let me fall into the wires, into the wires i’m like a creature of the deep, i close my eyes, but I never sleep and i’m so tired that i’m sinking i am sinking In the darkness, i escape In the darkness, i escape In the darkness, i escape In the darkness, i escape
6.
Dive 08:05
I’ll be there for you when there is blood in the water lets get out of here and escape, whilst we still can so come on darling, lets ascend But don’t let it get you down please try but if its already too late and you’re sinking beneath the waves then don’t let it get you down this time and we will soon rise up again just keep watching the surface dont dive ASCEND! REPEAT!
7.
The Garden 06:51
You will find me, in the garden, on the last day of the world from the highest branches of the sycamore i’ll be watching as we explore Will you join me, in the garden, for the first step, into the stars because tomorrow we’ll just, be little particles i don’t want us, to drift apart there’s a strange light, on the horizon its the last thing, we’ll ever see but as we wait together, in the garden i am as happy, as can be because you’re here with me

about

In 1923 the British explorer George Mallory was interviewed by the New York Times about climbing Mount Everest. When asked why he wanted to climb the mountain, Mallory famously replied ‘Because it is there’. The year after he gave the interview, Mallory died on the slopes of Everest, It is unlikely he ever reached the summit.

There are many reasons why people do things. But when i consider the question of why do I write music, i find Mallory’s response ‘Because it is there’ to be a near perfect answer.

In its own way i have always considered music a form of exploration, there is a true excitement in trying to do something without knowing if it is possible or not. Stories like Mallory’s are inspiring not just because of the physical achievement involved, but also because of the mental willingness to go into the unknown, despite the potential consequences.

As I was writing the music that became ‘Yes, Sleep Well Death’, I realised that although I was mostly writing from the piano and guitar, the music i was hearing in my head was much more diverse and ambitious. The music was pulling somewhere over my musical horizon and it felt like the right thing to do to follow. A creative journey into the unknown.

The result is something that i am very proud of. I feel that it has a lot of the DNA of the melodic songwriting from my first record ‘Silence’, but exists in a wider, grander world of new musical landscapes. Writing this record has left me with a lot more questions than answers, but to quote the 19th century explorer Fritjof Nansen; “What lies ahead? we cannot be sure, but it must be beautiful. A start on such a night is full of promise."
